Party Beauty Survival Guide

You might have partied too hard at the end of last year, and you’d got your tired skin to show for it. Don’t worry — you can make amends this year with these party season tips that we’ve prepared for you. You can party as wildly as you want without having to worry about the effect those late nights have on your skin.

DRINK A LOT OF WATER

Drink smart. Alternate between water and your alcoholic drink during a party. This is the secret of supermodels and A-listers who are real party animals. Added hydration means the body absorbs less alcohol. When you go home, possibly drunk, don’t forget to drink a lot of water before you go to sleep to prevent that hangover-from-hell the next morning. The first thing to do when you get up the next day is to drink a glass of water with a squeeze of lemon to help your liver and kidneys flush out the alcohol.

ALWAYS CLEAN YOUR FACE

You can be drunk. You can be tired. You cannot skip cleaning your face before going to bed. Your skin is suffering enough from the late nights, alcohol, and lack of sleep. Don’t add the burden by leaving your make-up on the skin, mixed with cigarette smoke and dirt. A moment of sheer laziness can make your skin dull for days, and you might get pimples as a bonus. If you are so drunk that washing your face is too much of a task, use make-up removing wipes to cleanse the skin and put on some night cream to hydrate the skin.

LEAVE YOUR SKIN ALONE

Some people think that scrubbing the skin in the morning helps remove the tired look. When your skin is tired thanks to the lack of sleep, your skin is weakened and dry. Therefore, it is particularly irritable, so scrubbing it is probably not a very good idea. The best thing to do is get some rest, let your skin breath, and do not disturb it.

  LESS IS MORE

Too much alcohol and too little rest can make your skin dull and dry the next day. No matter how much make-up you try to put on to cover up those flaws, it just looks cakey. The golden rule of make-up when your skin is not at its best is to nourish it first with moisturiser. Keep the make-up minimal, and if your skin doesn’t have that many flaws, use just a tinted primer or tinted moisturiser to even out the skin tone. For more coverage, use liquid foundation but skip the powder. Avoid oil-free formula and matte texture because they just make dry skin look drier and enhance your flaws.

FAKE AN 8-HOUR SLEEP

Add a glow to your face by using make-up to fake an 8-hour sleep. Use mascara and eyeliner to open and brighten your eyes. For best results, use black mascara and black eyeliner. Steer clear of pastel eyeshadows and shimmery colours because they can make the eyes look even more swollen.
